Preserve Community Access Now by Supporting COMMUNITY ACCESS PRESERVATION (CAP) Act. The public access community has been fighting for years to keep our heads above water. The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) and DCTV have worked side by side to protect the precious resources of public
access television and all community media. In October, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin filed the Community Access Preservation Act, which if enacted, would preserve and protect Public, Education, Government (PEG) access channels in four ways.
This bill:
|
Removes use restrictions on PEG access fees; |
|
Ends operators’ discriminatory treatment of PEG channels; |
|
Directs the FCC to study and report on the effects recent States’ video franchising legislation have had on PEG access; and |
|
Defines all video services delivered to the home over wire as “cable” for them purposes of the act, regardless of the transmission protocol used. |
The goal of ACM’s Preserve Community Access Now campaign is to get co-sponsors for the bill in the House, get a version filed in the Senate, get the bill passed by Congress, and signed by the President - before the summer recess.
What You Can Do TODAY:
FAX, WRITE & E-MAIL your Representatives and Senators. ACM has set up a simple online fax tool : CLICK HERE. This ACM link allows you to enter your zip code and automatically contact your Representative and
Senator to ask them to support HR 3745, which needs co-sponsors in the House, and a companion bill in the Senate. When visiting DCTV, we can also help you submit a letter using the web. We must work together to preserve community access!
